The Brewer: Rocket Town
I was convinced that I had tried this beer before. Right up until the first sniff.
The aroma is a strong caramel and banana and the taste matches up.
This is effectively liquid banoffee pie.
At this point, I need to be honest.
I don’t like banana.
So, I shared the beer with Mrs PDP, who loves banoffee pie.
She enjoyed it, although admitted it wasn’t a beer she could drink an awful lot of.
I guess it’s a beer for a specific palette.
Where in the North?
Rocket Town is based in what is essentially my second home. From the age of 16 to 40, I studied, worked or lived in Darlington, a town that now boasts some great beer pubs (Number 22, Hash and more), but has always been an enjoyable night out, even as my tastes have changed.
The town is famed for its links to the world’s first public railway, the Stockton & Darlington Railway, and has a strong Quaker heritage.
Darlington has its own showpiece work of art – a giant brick train, created by artist David Mach and unveiled in 1997.
